      <title>2004 Democratic National Convention, Day 2 Evening</title>
      <description>On the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Boston, MA, party leaders, former presidential candidates and others spoke about Senator John Kerry's candidacy and building on the unity and patriotism within the party. State senator Obama gave the keynote speech in which he talked about his background, the goals and aspirations of the party, and adopting a message of hope. Mrs. Kerry highlighted the evening's speeches with an endorsement of her husband's presidency and her thoughts on public policy. At various points campaign videos were shown and entertainment was provided.</description>

      <title>African Americans in World War II</title>
      <description>Coinciding with the dedication of the National World War II Memorial the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage held a four-day "Tribute to a Generation: National World War II Reunion" on the National Mall in a series of tented pavilions and stages. One of the tents was called "Wartime Stories."  On this panel two veterans talked their service during the war, and especially about the challenges of being African-Americans in the armed services. After their reminiscences they responded to questions from members of the audience

      <title>Book Discussion on [A Wealth of Wisdom]</title>
      <description>Camille Cosby and Renee Poussaint hosted a panel discussion with some of the individuals profiled in the book they edited, [A Wealth of Wisdom:  Legendary African American Elders Speak], published by Atria Books. The book is a collection of stories, experiences, and observations of more than fifty African Americans, ages seventy and over, collected to preserve the lessons from African American elders and pass them on to young people. The panelists discussed the influence of elders in the African American community. After their comments the panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.</description>

      <title>Writings of Hughes and Hurston</title>
      <description>Guests examined the origins and impact of the Harlem Renaissance which lasted from the end of World War I through the middle of the Great Depression. During that time, a group of African-American writers created a sizeable body of literature in the genres of poetry, fiction, drama and essay. Through their writings, they explored racial consciousness and the status of African-Americans at the time. 
Participants talked about two of the Harlem Renaissance writers, Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston. Dr. Rampersad was the primary biographer of Hughes' life. Mr. Dodson provided the historical context of the Harlem Renaissance. Dr. Wall provided background information on Zora Neale Hurston and the impact of her works. Lucy Anne Hurston, an author in her own right, was the niece of Zora Neale Hurston.</description>

      <title>1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom</title>
      <description>The 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was 49 years ago, on August 28th, 1963. The march was organized to push for comprehensive civil rights including public school desegregation, voting rights protections and a federal program to train and place unemployed workers.
It was at this march that civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.
Next is a 20 minute U.S. Information Agency Film on the march.</description>
