Book Discussion on [Overblown]

John Mueller talked about his book, [Overblown: How Politicians and the Terrorism Industry Inflate National Security Threats, and Why We Believe Them], published by The Free Press. He argued that the U.S. government and media have unjustifiably inflated the threat posed by terrorists and that the government's overreaction to September 11 has done more harm to the country than the harm directly associated with the attacks that day. He said that terrorism should be treated as a real but manageable threat instead of a threat that requires changing the Constitution and creating large government agencies. James Gilmore commented on the book. After the presentation both men responded to audience members' questions.

Former Governor Gilmore is chairman of the Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction and is chair of the National Council on Readiness and Preparedness.
