The hearing touched on a wide range of issues including unemployment, the federal deficit, increasing taxes on the rich to the European debt crisis.
Child Deaths from Maltreatment

Witnesses testified about a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on child welfare. The report found that thedU.S. uses flawed methods in tracking child deaths from maltreatment. A 2009 estimate showed over 1,700 children died nationally from abuse and maltreatment, but the new report indicated that number could be much higher, and called for better coordination across the state and federal level. The hearing ends abruptly with two minutes remaining.
