Author Neil Barofsky talked about his book, [Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street], in which he offered an indictment of the past two administrations and their mismanagement of the $700 billion in taxpayer relief that never quite made it to the taxpayers.

Q&A with David Maraniss

David Maraniss talked about his book [Rome 1960: The Olympics That Changed the World], published by Simon and Schuster. In the book he looks at the convergence of sports, race, and the Cold War. Included are the experiences of boxer Cassius Clay, sprinter Wilma Rudolph, decathlete Rafer Johnson, and others. The 1960 Olympics were the first commercially televised Summer Games, so the images of both the East and West were important to their leaders then, at the height of the Cold War.

David Maraniss is an associate editor at [The Washington Post]. He won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 1993. His previous books include [They Marched Into Sunlight: War and Peace Vietnam and America October 1967]; [First in His Class: The Biography of Bill Clinton]; and [The Clinton Enigma]; as well as biographies of sports legends Vince Lombardi and Roberto Clemente.

Book Discussion on [They Marched into Sunlight]

Mr. Maraniss discussed his upcoming book, [They Marched Into Sunlight: Battlefields of War and Peace in 1967]. In it, he compares and contrasts two battlefields: the chemical riots in Wisconsin and the battle in Vietnam. He states that it was through his travels to Vietnam and visiting the archives in Wisconsin that he captured the essence of his book. Despite the fact that these wars took place more than thirty years ago, David Maraniss believes that there are some universal lessons embedded in these wars. Following his presentation, he answered questions from members of the audience.
