According to a [National Journal] online survey of 717 professional women, three-fourths of the women believe men still have more opportunities to get ahead. Half said they have experienced discrimination at work because of gender and 60% said it's harder for women to attain positions of leadership.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [USAToday]</title>
      <description>Washington Journal was live from the newsroom of [USA Today] in McLean, Virginia, in recognition of it 25th anniversary. [USA Today] was launched as the first national newspaper on September 15, 1982. Editors and reporters talked separately about different aspects of the paper and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. Editor Ken Paulson talked about the concept of a national newspaper. National News editor Catherine Straight talked about how content is determined. Political correspondent Jill Lawrence talked about the permanent campaigning for the presidential elections and how the paper is covering the 2008 campaigns. business reporter and columnist John Waggoner talked about covering economic issues of concern to the consumer. Brian Gallagher talked about the editorial policy of [USA Today] and the unique style of its editorial page.
 
 Video clips were shown from interviews on September 18, 1983, on the first anniversary of [USA Today]. Brian Lamb interviewed executive editor Ron Martin,  and president Vincent Spezzano on the editorial policy. Carl Rutan interviewed Money section managing editor J. Taylor Buckley.
 
 Video was shown from interviews conducted by Pedro Echevarria on September 27, 2007, with Richard Curtis about the graphic design of the paper and with Bob Swanson about producing the weather information and features for the print and online editions.</description>

      <title>Women Voters and the Media</title>
      <description>WomenVote USA hosted the forum "Colloquium on Women Voters:  The Defining Vote."  Several top female journalists participated in a panel titled "Media's Role in Defining Women Voters."  They talked about women voters and the media as well as the history of women voters in electoral campaigns from the 1980 election to the present. The journalists also discussed how Reagan initially did not win the majority of the women vote, but by 1984, his campaign had been able to capture a majority of the vote. After they spoke, the panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
 
 Ms. DeWitt moderated the panel.</description>
