      <description>The Library of Congress held a panel discussion with some former colleagues of the late Clay T. Whitehead to discuss his legacy and unveil his collected papers.
The Library of Congress recently accepted the papers of Clay T. Whitehead, who many credit as a visionary who helped create the modern telecommunications industry, first as a member of the Nixon administration and then as an entrepreneur. Mr. Whitehead led government efforts in the 1960s and 1970s to deregulate telecommunications and break up communications monopolies such as the Bell companies, paving the way for cable TV, cell phones, and other now widely used technologies.</description>
