Numerous speakers, including family, friends, and colleagues, spoke about their relationships and read excerpts from Christopher Hitchens' work. There were also a few slides and some music. The event was hosted by [Vanity Fair] magazine at the Great Hall of the Cooper Union in New York City.</description>

Daniel Mendelsohn received the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Book Reviewing and Barney Rosset received the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award. Acceptance speeches by Mr. Bix and Mr. Crace were read by their editors.</description>
