Following the remarks of several veterans and relatives of soldiers killed in Vietnam, the president praised the efforts of the young servicemen and women sent to Vietnam, and pledged to declassify and release the remaining government records on American POW/MIAs from the Vietnam War by November 1993. The president's remarks were met with jeers by a portion of the crowd who opposed his appearance at the memorial due to his lack of military service and opposition to the Vietnam War during the 1960's.
