      <description>A debate was held among candidates for the seat in the U.S. Senate to be left open by the retirement of Senator Larry Craig. Topics included the economy and the economic bailout plan, the federal deficit, legislative earmarks, energy, and global climate change.
 
 Republican Lieutenant Governor Jim Risch was also a former governor. Democrat Larry LaRocco was formerly a U.S. Representative for Idaho. Independent candidate Rex Rammell was formerly a veterinarian and elk rancher.
 
 
 The debate was held at the Lewiston Community Center. Panelists for the debate came from the sponsors, KLEW-TV, the [Lewiston Tribune] and the [Moscow-Pullman Daily News]. The debate was carried live on KLEW-TV.</description>
