      <title>Transportation Secretary Nomination Hearing</title>
      <description>Former Representative Ray LaHood testified about his nomination to be secretary of transportation. In his remarks he said that transportation infrastructure projects would be a high priority of the Obama administration in order to aid in economic stimulus. He also indicated that road and rail projects must be environmentally "sustainable" to "acknowledge the new reality of climate change."  Other topics included improving fuel economy, air traffic control issues, and the viability of Amtrak. Senator Dick Durbin introduced the nominee.</description>

Mr. Smith served as his press secretary, and gives an insider's view of the workings of the House of Representatives.
 
 Mr. Smith spoke about his book during a book party in the Eisenhower Room of the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C. Also speaking were Sen. John McCain, Mr. Ornstein, Rep. J.D. Hayworth, and Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert, while Mr. Aiken introduced each speaker. Other friends and the son and widow of former Representative John J. Rhodes were also in attendance.</description>
