      <title>Amtrak Structural Reorganization</title>
      <description>Representatives from Amtrak and the United Transportation Union testified on the status of a structural reorganization plan for the passenger rail service. Ted Alves reported that Amtrak had or was in the process of implementing several of changes, such as human capital management and food and beverage programs. He said that the company was focused on operating more like a profit-making business, and that Amtrak had improved its invoice review process and recovered over $20 million in overpayments in 2012. 
Republican committee members spoke of Amtrak's heavy dependence on government subsidies and stressed the need for efficiency.</description>

He said he is hopeful the U.S. House can act on this legislation before the end of 2011.
