Book Discussion on [Heart of a Soldier]

Mr. Stewart talked about his biography, [Heart of a Soldier: A Story of Love, Heroism, and September 11], published by Simon and Schuster. He told the story of Rick Rescorla, the chief of security for Morgan Stanley, which occupied forty floors of the World Trade Center. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Mr. Rescorla grabbed a megaphone and oversaw the evacuation of Morgan Stanley's 2,700 employees, attempting to calm nerves by singing into his megaphone. Mr. Rescorla was also a decorated Vietnam veteran who fought in the pivotal Ia Drang Valley battle and was awarded the Silver Star among other honors. After the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 Mr. Rescorla believed that the buildings were highly succeptible to terrorist attacks again and tried to convince Port Authority officials of this. The author was joined on stage by Mr. Rescorla's lifelong friend Dan Hill, himself a Vietnam veteran and a character in the book. After the presentation both men answered questions from members of the audience.
