This event was part of a conference which examined the legacies of America's First Ladies and took place at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library. This conference was the last of three in Texas focusing on First Ladies - the previous gatherings were at the George Bush Presidential Library and the George W. Bush Presidential Center.</description>

      <description>Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) spoke about gains for women in the 2012 elections. They noted that for the first time ever, there would be no all-male state legislatures, there would be 81 women in the House and 20 in the Senate, and that for the first time the majority in the Democratic Caucus would not be white males. Then panelists discussed the impact of women in the 2012 elections. A national public opinion research report by EMILY s List was released that provides an in-depth look at the issues that motivated women most at the polls. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience. Dee Dee Myers moderated.</description>

      <title>After Words with Dee Dee Myers</title>
      <description>Dee Dee Myers talked about her book [Why Women Should Rule The World], published by Harper. In her book Ms. Myers argues that the increased number of women in leadership positions creates a stronger society. She profiles women who have garnered success in their respective fields from government to corporate boardrooms. Ms. Myers, former White House press secretary during the Clinton administration and the first woman to hold the position, talked about her political career and the challenges she faced as a woman in the West Wing. The guest interviewer was White House Press Secretary Dana Perino.
 
 Dee Dee Myers was the White House press secretary from January 1993 to December 1994 and was the first woman to hold the position. Following her tenure she was a consultant to the NBC drama, "The West Wing" and co-host of the CNBC program, "Equal Time."  Ms. Myers is currently a contributing editor to [Vanity Fair] magazine and political commentator for NBC and MSNBC.
 
 Dana Perino, the current White House press secretary, has held the position since September 2007. Prior to her current position Ms. Perino was deputy assistant to the president and deputy press secretary. She has also been spokesperson for the Department of Justice and director of communications for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.</description>

      <description>During the final briefing in the White House Brady Briefing Room, Mr. Snow briefed reporters and answered questions on a number of issues including the status of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and U.S. policy toward Cuba, the status of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, and United Nations efforts to broker a cease-fire agreement in the Middle East.
 
 Following the formal briefing President Bush made an unexpected appearance to thank former press secretaries and reporters prior to renovations to room. He made a few light-hearted remarks about the conditions in the current room, relations with the press corps, and answered brief questions about the renovations. Former press secretaries in attendance were James Brady, Ron Nessen, Marlin Fitzwater, Dee Dee Myers, and Joe Lockhart.</description>

 During the morning panel of the 2005 Campus Progress National Student Conference, a panel was held titled, "Challenge for the Next Generation: Winning the Battle of Ideas."  The panel discussion focused on topics discussed in the book [What's the Matter with Kansas] by Thomas Frank and detailed challenges Democrats face in persuading voters in the American heartland to support the Democratic Party. Mr. Begala, whose provocative criticism drew rounds of applause from the audience, said that Republicans "want to kill us."  Following the discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Ms. Myers moderated the panel.
