Forced Labor in China

The subcommittee heard testimony on China's use of forced labor to produce goods for export to the United States. Mr. Perito testified that information gathered by Mr. Wu, a former Chinese political prisoner, on a recent trip to China provided strong evidence that China was using its political prisoners to produce goods for export to the U.S., despite stringent regulations prohibiting the importation of goods to the U.S. produced by forced labor. A short video segment from the television show "60 Minutes" was shown to the subcommittee before the testimony, in which a hidden camera carried by Mr. Wu during his trip to China recorded scenes of forced labor from Chinese prisons.
