Book Discussion on [The Roots of Obama's Rage]

Dinesh D'Souza argues that President Obama's political ideologies are born from a sense of anti-colonialism that, according to the author, was inherited from the president's African father. Mr. D'Souza contends that the president's economic and foreign policy plans would weaken the United States and curtail the country's super power status. Dinesh D'Souza presented his book at the National Conference on Christan Apologetics held at Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After Words with Dinesh D'Souza

Mr. D'Souza asserts that President Obama poses an existential threat the United States, because he is heavily influenced by his father's anti-colonialist ideology. Using several biographies of the 44th president, Mr. D'Souza claims to have evidence of a presidential agenda that includes economic policies designed to make America poorer and attempting to make the country's status as a superpower a thing of the past. He discussed his theory about the commander-in-chief's policy motivations with [Newsweek]'s Jonathan Alter, author of [The Promise], which provided an inside look at President Obama's 2008 campaign.

Mr. D'Souza discussed his book [Letters to a Young Conservative], published by Basic Books. The author wrote the book in the hopes that it would be used as a survival guide for younger conservatives living in what he refers to as liberal environments. Mr. D'Souza believes that these young conservatives must examine the basic foundations of liberalism in order to confirm their own notions. The conservatism that the author refers to is based on natural rights and a belief in universal moral truths. After prepared remarks, Mr. D'Souza answered questions from the audience.

Book Discussion on [Letters to a Young Conservative]

Mr. D'Souza discussed his book [Letters to a Young Conservative], published by Basic Books. According to Mr. D'Souza, the book is a survival guide for youthful conservatives who exist in liberal environments. He feels that fledgling conservatives must examine basic liberal assumptions in order to confirm their own beliefs. Mr. D'Souza suggests that the conservative philosophy does not simply advocate "family values" or patriotism, but is a philosophy based on natural rights and a belief in universal moral truths. He goes on to explain several topics from that point of view. These topics include how Affirmative Action hurts blacks, fighting political correctness and why government is the problem. A question and answer period follows Mr. D'Souza's presentation.

Mr. D'Souza outlined and addressed three foreign critiques of U.S. foreign policy (European, Asian and Islamic). In responding to the Islamic critique, he argued that the answer to the question "Why do they hate us?" can be found in the Western idea that only free people can be virtuous, while many Muslim leaders see freedom as a threat to virtue. Mr. D'Souza also addressed the issue of colonialism and the current efforts to get reparations for slavery. He answered questions following his remarks.
