      <title>Memorial Service for John Kenneth Galbraith</title>
      <description>A memorial service for John Kenneth Galbraith was held in Memorial Church in Harvard Yard, Cambridge. Many dignitaries and family members eulogized him and praised his life and career in public service and teaching. 
 
 Galbraith, an economist, author, presidential adviser, and former ambassador to India died April 29, 2006, at Mount Auburn Hospital at age 97. He was a Paul M. Warburg professor emeritus of economics at Harvard University.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Our Underachieving Colleges]</title>
      <description>Derek Bok talked about his book [Our Underachieving Colleges: A Candid Look at How Much Students Learn and Why They Should Be Learning More], published by Princeton University Press. He explained his educational philosophy and his ideas about the ways college students should be learning more. He compared the U.S. educational system with other countries such as China. He identified ways of improving American students' performance in critical thinking, writing, and foreign languages. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.
 
 Former Harvard President Bok will succeed Laurence Summers as interim president of Harvard University when President Summers' resignation takes effect on June 30, 2006.</description>

      <title>Diversity in Higher Education</title>
      <description>Mr. Bok and Mr. Bowen talked about their study which looked at how diversity affected students both while in college and in their subsequent careers. The study found that race-sensitive admissions policies had generally achieved their goals. Among college students they found significant racial interaction and good graduation rates. Among graduates they found that minorities tended to participate in community service and get advanced degrees. After their remarks they answered questions from the audience.</description>

      <description>Mr. Bok discussed his twenty-year career as president of the oldest
 university in the United States, Harvard University. During that
 time he has raised the school's endowment from $1 billion to $5
 billion. The John F. Kennedy School of Government was established during his tenure and is now recognized as a leading educational source for
 the nation's public policy experts. President Bok said his most important contribution has been an emphasis on
 moral issues. He is concerned that modern universities do not
 contribute enough to the development of students as responsible,
