      <description>Michael Beschloss talked about his life and career. He responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
A video was shown of Mr. Beschloss giving a tour of President Lincoln's Cottage on the grounds of the Soldiers' Home in Washington. He talked about visiting historic sites and the book he was writing on presidents in wartime.
Michael Beschloss is a presidential historian and a regular contributor to PBS's "The Newshour." He is a trustee of the White House Historical Association, and a former trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. He has also served as a historian for the Smithsonian Institute.
Michael Beschloss is the author of six books: [Kennedy and Roosevelt: The Uneasy Alliance] (1980); [Mayday: Eisenhower, Khrushchev and the U-2 Affair] (1986); [Eisenhower: A Centennial Life] (1990); [The Crisis Years: Kennedy and Khrushchev, 1960-196]3 (1991); [The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941-1945] (2002); and [Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989] (2007).
He is also the co-author with Strobe Talbott of [At the Highest Levels: The Inside Story of the End of the Cold War] (1993), and the editor of three books: [Taking Charge: The Johnson White House Tapes, 1963-1964] (1997); [Reaching for Glory: Lyndon Johnson's Secret White House Tapes, 1964-1965] (2010); and [Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy] (2011).</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy]</title>
      <description>In March 1964, Jacqueline Kennedy sat with historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., to record seven interviews totaling over eight hours of the first lady's remembrances of her husband's personal and political life on the campaign trail and in the White House. The tapes were heard for the first time when they were released the previous month. Caroline Kennedy presented excerpts from the recorded interviews, accompanied by pictures. Then Mr. Widmer moderated a discussion with Mr. Beschloss and Mr. Donahue. The panelists also responded to questions submitted by members of the audience at this Kennedy Library Forum.</description>

      <title>News and Documentary Emmy Awards</title>
      <description>The 26th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards were presented by the National Television Academy at a black-tie ceremony at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York City. Newsmakers and industry executives presented awards to broadcast journalists. United Nations Undersecretary-General Shashi Tharoor presented two awards on behalf of the International Academy of TV Arts and Sciences.
 
 A Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Sheila Nevins for her contributions to the art of the documentary. CBS News anchor and correspondent Dan Rather received a special tribute in recognition of his 55 years as a correspondent and anchor. Those who participated in the tribute included Ted Koppel, Brian Williams, former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Susan Zirinsky, Rick Kaplan, Tom Bettag, and Marvin Kalb. NBC News correspondent Tom Brokaw made a special tribute via video. The late Peter Jennings' contributions to broadcast journalism were also remembered during the event.</description>

 After the forum, Lind and O'Brien were interviewd and responded to viewer telephone calls in a call-in format.

Music was provided by the Union Baptist Church Choir and the Springfield Children's Choir. Ms. Payne served as master of ceremonies.</description>
