T.H. Breen is the author of [American Insurgents, American Patriots: The Revolution of the People] (Hill and Wang, 2010). In his book he focuses on the ordinary people who were prepared to fight long before the Battle of Lexington and Concord of April 19, 1775.
Jack Rakove is the author of [Revolutionaries: A New History of the Invention of America] (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010). In his book Professor Rakove tells the stories of America's Founding Fathers before they became fully formed leaders, as individuals whose lives were radically altered by the events of the mid-1770s

Topics included his African-American heritage, his genealogical work, and President Lincoln's views of racial issues. He also responded to questions from members of the audience. He was  interviewed on stage by Mr. Kogan.
This program "Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in Conversation with Rick Kogan: Our Histories, Our Stories," presented by the Chicago Public Library and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, was part of the Chicago Public Library's "Land of Lincoln Readers: Summer Reads for Adults." Co-conveners for the program included the Chicago Public Library, Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, Chicago Bar Association, Chicago History Museum, DuSable Museum of African American History, Facing History and Ourselves, The HistoryMakers, McCormick Freedom Museum, The Newberry Library, The Richmond Group, Historian Charles Branham, Historian Adam Green, and Ms. Anne Oppenheimer.</description>

They talked about the leadership skills of these two presidents, focusing on their business experiences as well as their military roles.       <title>African American Perspectives on Abraham Lincoln</title>
      <description>Rep. Jackson, a member of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, provided opening and closing remarks. Moderated by Professor Horton, panelists discussed African American perspectives on Abraham Lincoln. Topics included racial relations and full integration, Lincoln's grudging view of racial equality, racial issues and the Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation, black troops helping win the Civil War, Frederick Douglass on Lincoln, the 1963 March on Washington, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After their presentations, the panelists responded to audience members' questions. 
 
 The bicentennial of Lincoln's birth occurs in 2009.</description>
