      <title>Senior Advisers to the First Ladies</title>
      <description>Former senior advisers to first ladies talked about their White House experiences and the working bonds between first ladies regardless of political party. They talked about life and politics in the executive mansion's East Wing and about how they worked with their first ladies to promote the first lady's agenda and interests. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Allida Black moderated.
"Behind the Scenes in the East Wing: Senior Advisors to the First Ladies" was a panel at the conference "America's First Ladies: An Enduring Legacy." Held at the George Bush Presidential Library Center in College Station, it was the first of three conferences focusing on first ladies organized by Anita McBride to be held at the Texas presidential libraries. It was presented in partnership with American University, Texas A&amp;M University, the White House Historical Association, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.</description>

      <title>The Special U.S.-U.K. Relationship</title>
      <description>Alan Lowe and Rob Havers made the opening remarks for the second day of the conference "The United States and Great Britain: The Legacy of Churchill's Atlantic Alliance." 
David Reynolds spoke on "Churchill and the Iron Curtain: What He Really Meant."  He talked about the impact of Churchill's Iron Curtain speech on U.S.-U.K. relations.
David Woolner spoke on "Prime Minister Eden and The Special Relationship." Anthony Eden was the British prime minister in the 1950s. Professor Woolner talked about his post-war relationship with the United States.
After each presentation the speaker responded to questions from members of the audience. Allen Packwood moderated.</description>

      <description>Professors Geelhoed and Edmonds talked about the relationship between Prime Minister Harold MacMillan and President Eisenhower and how they were able to heal the "special relationship" between the U.S. and Great Britain after the Suez Crisis of 1956. Professors Geelhoed and Edmonds co-edited [The MacMillan-Eisenhower Correspondence, 1957-69] and co-wrote [Eisenhower, MacMillan and Allied Unity, 1957-61], both published by Palgrave Macmillan.

The panelists described how humor works in politics and can often diffuse tense political battles. Mr. Seigenthaler moderated the panelists' comparison of political discourses. There was no question and answer segment.</description>
