Book Discussion on [The School of the Americas]

Professor Gill talks about her book [The School of the Americas: Military Training and Political Violence in the Americas], published by Duke University Press. Fort Benning, Georgia is home to the U.S. Army Training Center Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, formerly known as the School of the Americas. The new book looks inside this training facility and explains its relationship with military and police organizations abroad. The author explains the center's focus on counterinsurgency and combat skills, its particular popularity among soldiers and police from Latin America, and the criticism it has faced in the wake of accusations of its graduates participating in torture and political repression. After her presentation she answered audience members' questions.
