 Louise Steinman is the author of [The Souvenir: A Daughter Discovers Her Father's War] (Algonquin Books; October 12, 2001). Laura Miller is the author of [The Magician's Book: A Skeptic's Adventures in Narnia] (Little, Brown and Company; December 3, 2008). Sara Nelson, former editor-in-chief at [Publishers Weekly], is the author of [So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading] (Putnam; Fourth Edition October 9, 2003). Jane Smiley, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, is also the author of [Thirteen Ways of Looking at the Novel] (Knopf; September 13, 2005). Lizzie Skurnick, the author of the forthcoming [Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading] (Avon; July 21, 2009), has a book blog called "Old Hag."
 
 "About Reading" was a 2:00 p.m. ET panel of the [Los Angeles Times] Festival of Books on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles.</description>

      <title>After Words with Elaine Showalter</title>
      <description>Elaine Showalter talked about her book [A Jury of Her Peers: American Women Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx] (Knopf; February 24, 2009). In her book she presents a history of female writers in America and the prejudices against women writers. Ms. Showalter explores the influence women have had on the American literary canon and profiles authors from throughout the history of the nation. She talked about how she came to write the book and her methodology. Sara Nelson was the guest interviewer.
 
 Elaine Showalter is the author of several books, including [A Literature of Their Own: British Women Novelists from Bronte to Lessing]. She has been the chair of the Man Booker International Prize jury and has judged the Orange Prize and National Book Awards. Elaine Showalter is a professor emerita of English at Princeton University.
 
 Sara Nelson is a critic at [The Daily Beast]. She was formerly the editor in chief of [Publishers Weekly] and the publishing columnist for [The New York Observer]. Ms. Nelson is the author of [So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading].</description>
