      <title>Energy Development on Federal Lands and Outer Continental Shelf</title>
      <description>Secretary Salazar and other witnesses testified about federal land use and permissions use of offshore areas. Secretary Salazar announced that the Interior Department and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission agreed to work together to settle a longstanding conflict over which agency oversees offshore alternative energy. Other topics at the hearing included federal oil leases, renewable energy projects, and the federal approval process for new energy projects.</description>

Robert Bryce is the author of [Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of "Energy Independence"] (PublicAffairs; March 4, 2008). Lisa Margonelli is the author of [Oil on the Brain: Petroleum's Long, Strange Trip to Your Tank] (Broadway; February 12, 2008). 
"Bubblin' Crude - The Life and Times of Oil" was a panel of the Texas Book Festival held in the Texas State Capitol House Chamber.</description>

      <description>Robert Bryce talked about his book [Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of Energy Independence], published by PublicAffairs. The book advocated for continued use of foreign energy sources and that promises of energy independence were false. He was joined by Steven Hayward and Kenneth Green to discuss the realities, liabilities, and possibilities of energy independence. They responded to questions from members of the audience.

Mr. Cruver, a former senior manager at Enron, is the author of [Anatomy of Greed:  The Unshredded Truth from an Enron Insider]. Mr. Fox, a former senior editor at [Business 2.0] and former finance editor of [Upside] magazine, is the author of [Enron:  The Rise and Fall]. Mr. Miller, a financial analyst, is the co-author of [What Went Wrong at Enron:  Everyone's Guide to the Largest Bankruptcy in U.S. History].
 
 After the panel discussion Mr. Bryce and Mr. Fox were interviewed by remote connection. They responded to telephone calls from audience members.</description>
