      <description>A tour of the American bookshop called Shakespeare and Company established in Paris in 1917 by Sylvia Beach. It was a bookstore, a lending library, and centre of activity and contact for English-speaking writers and artists in Paris. James Joyce's Ulysses was first published by Shakespeare and Co., and books like Lady Chatterley's Lover, banned in England and the U.S. were available to buy or to borrow. The present owner also provides hospitality to writers.</description>

      <title>H. P. Kraus Library Auction</title>
      <description>H.P. Kraus Rare Books, located in New York City, was one of the largest and most influential rare book businesses in the United States in the second half of the twentieth century. The books once held by the company were recently sold at Sotheby's Auction for approximately $5 million. A former Kraus employee, a Sotheby's vice president, and H.P. Kraus's daughter were interviewed about Mr. Kraus and his rare book business. A tour of the former business premises was also conducted, and a number of books were shown.

      <title>In Depth at Strand Book Store</title>
      <description>BookTV toured the Strand Book Store and talked with authors Richard Brookhiser, Harold Evans, Amy Goodman, John Fund and publishers Peter Osnos and Adam Bellow. The Strand also held an author event with Art Spiegelman, author of [Maus] and [In the Shadow of No Towers]. The guests responded to questions from the audience in the store and telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail from viewers.
 
 
 
 In 1927 Benjamin Bass founded the Strand Book Store along New York's long-famous and now-extinct "Book Row."  Seventy-seven years later the store is still in the Bass family and is still a destination point for New Yorkers and visitors alike. It has grown to occupy four stories in its present location at 12th Street and Broadway, living up to the Strand slogan "18 miles of books."  The Strand is located at 828 Broadway.</description>

      <description>Al Shuman, one of the co-owners of Trover Shop, talked about the decision to close the Washington, D.C. independent bookstore. The family business had operated for over 50 years two blocks from the Capitol, at 221 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. The bookstore specialized in political nonfiction and had hosted book signings by several congressional authors and politicians, including Hillary Clinton and Colin Powell. Mr. Shuman talked about the changing economics of the book business, including sales lost to the Internet, not only to purchases online but to information available there without charge.</description>
