      <title>Chief Justice Confirmation Hearing 2</title>
      <description>Prior to confirmation hearings for Judge John Roberts, a compilation of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings for Justice William Rehnquist's nomination as Chief Justice was shown. Justice Rehnquist gave his testimony from July 29 through August 1 of 1986. Portions were drawn from the second day of hearings on July 30, 1986.
Justice Rehnquist responded to questions from committee members about his views regarding such topics as voter intimidation, cameras in the courtroom, a summerhouse in Vermont, role of federal judiciary, penal reform ballot security issues, and his views on the role of Chief Justice.
President Reagan nominated Justice Rehnquist to become the next Supreme Court Chief Justice on June 20, 1986. The Senate confirmed his nomination on September 17, 1986 with a vote of 65 in favor, 33 opposed. Justice Rehnquist was named to succeed retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger.</description>

      <description>Events surrounding the funeral of Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist were shown. Chief Justice Rehnquist's casket remained in the Great Hall of the Supreme Court for viewing by officials and well-wishers from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 12:00 p.m. ET. It was carried to a hearse for the journey to St. Matthew's Cathedral for a private funeral and burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
 
 This compilation includes Senators and Congressmen paying their respects, footage of other justices and nominee Judge John Roberts at the events, blessings by clergy in the Great Hall, as well as portions of the funeral procession.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Rehnquist]</title>
      <description>Herman Obermayer talked about his book [Rehnquist: A Personal Portrait of the Distinguished Chief Justice of the United States] (Threshold Editions; September 15, 2009). Editor and publisher Herman Obermayer wrote a personal memoir of the life and personality of one of his longest standing friends, William Rehnquist (1924-2005), the nation's 16th chief justice. He offered insights into the man behind the judicial decisions, including how the political position of conservatism  was seen in his daily life. Topics included his role in the impeachment trial of President Clinton and the Supreme Court decision in [Gore v. Bush]. He responded to questions from members of the audience.
This was a noon event on Friday, October 16, 2009, at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Herman Obermayer was editor and publisher of two independent newspapers: [The Northern Virginia Sun] and the [Daily Record], in Long Branch, N.J. He is author of the memoir [Soldiering for Freedom].</description>

      <description>Editor Michael Avery and fellow conributor David Rudovsky talked about the book, [We Dissent: Talking Back to the Rehnquist Court, Eight Cases That Subverted Civil Liberties and Civil Rights]. In this series of dissenting opinions, written by eight civil rights attorneys, the authors criticize the conservative civil rights and civil liberties decisions of the Rehnquist Court. They develop a constitutional vision that they say insists upon government accountability to its citizens. Topics included federal judicial selection by the Obama administration. They also responded to questions from members of the audience.
The Philadelphia and Drexel chapters of the National Lawyers Guild co-sponsored this event on Friday, February 6, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. at Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law. Michael Avery is a former president of the National Lawyers Guild.</description>

Panelists discussed the Chief Justice's decisions and how they have impacted society. They also talked about his life and role on the Supreme Court. Following the panel, participants responded to questions and comments from members of the audience.</description>
