Allegations of Clinton Marital Infidelity

Gennifer Flowers, a former correspondent for a television station in Arkansas, held a press conference in New York to reassert her claim that she had had an extramarital affair with Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton for nearly ten years. Gov. Clinton previously denied the allegations. During the press conference, marked by a high level of commotion by the press corps and a number of facetious questions put to Ms. Flowers by reporters, Ms. Flowers and her attorney Mr. Hendricks played excerpts from tapes which they claimed were of telephone calls between Ms. Flowers and Gov. Clinton. Ms. Flowers claimed the tapes were evidence that Gov. Clinton had had an affair with her and he had attempted to cover it up from the press. The press conference occurred one day after Gov. Clinton and his spouse appeared on the CBS newsprogram "60 Minutes" to deny the allegations.

50th Anniversary of 1960 West Virginia Democratic Primary

On the 50th anniversary of the 1960 West Virginia Democratic primary, Kennedy aides Richard Donahue, Charlie Peters, Ted Sorenson, and journalist David Broder shared their memories of the 1960 campaign with moderator Tom Oliphant. That primary election marked a turning point in Senator John F. Kennedy's bid to win the nomination for president against Senator Hubert H. Humphrey. Senator Kennedy's landslide victory in the state proved that a Catholic could be a viable candidate for president contrary to conventional wisdom at the time. A video clip of a campaign ad was shown in which Senator Kennedy responded to a question at a campaign event at Marshall University about whether his loyalties would be divided between his church and the state. After their discussion the panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
This was a Kennedy Forum event held at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.

The campaign had a difficult time overcoming the bad public image they gained from the media and Richard Nixon went on to win the presidential race in a landslide. Viewer questions were taken via telephone and electronic devices. Joshua Glasser, a researcher for Bloomberg Television, participated by video link from New York City.
