Senate Campaign Announcement

Senator Torricelli announced that he would no longer seek reelection to the U.S. Senate. Having been reprimanded by the Senate for ethics violations, and facing dramatically falling poll predictions in the Senate race, he cited an increasingly cynical political climate and the need for continued Democratic control of the Senate as reasons for dropping out of the race. He intended to serve out the remainder of his term. Following his remarks he answered questions from reporters and Senator Corzine and Governor McGreevey made brief remarks. Governor McGreevy commented on the process for replacing Senator Torricelli on the ballot.
