Book Discussion on [Photographing Montana 1894-1928]

Ms. Lucey talks about her book, [Photographing Montana 1894-1928: The Life and Work of Evelyn Cameron], published by Mountain Press. The book tells the story of Evelyn Cameron, who left her upper class English family in 1889 to become a rancher on the remote prairies of eastern Montana. Cameron documented her life among Montana's cattle ranchers, sheepherders, and homesteaders by taking thousands of photographs and keeping thirty-five diaries. Ms. Lucey discovered the negatives and diaries fifty years after Evelyn Cameron's death. The book provides insights into the conditions of life in the West during the settlement period and a portrait of a woman who thrived in those conditions.
