Book Discussion on [Too Late to Die Young: Nearly True Tales from a Life]

Harriet McBryde Johnson was interviewed about her book [Too Late to Die Young: Nearly True Tales from a Life], published by Henry Holt and Co. Harriet McBryde Johnson was born with congenital neuromuscular disease and has never been able to walk. In her memoir she recalls growing up in Charleston, South Carolina, her career as a civil rights attorney, the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, and her experiences as a disability activist. Because she wants kids with disabilities to grow up "prepared to survive," not merely waiting to die, she has protested against the Jerry Lewis muscular dystrophy telethon for thirteen years. She answered questions from Ms. Ringelheim and from audience members.

Book Discussion on [Disabling America: Protection of the Handicapped]

Greg Perry talked about his book [Disabling America: The Unintended Consequences of the Government's Protection of the Handicapped], published by Nelson Current. He writes that the Americans with Disabilities Act has done more to harm the handicapped than to help them. The author tells his own story of being born with only three deformed fingers and one leg and how his parents refused to allow those physical defects to set him back personally or professionally. He relates his own story to that of the handicapped in America and how they're affected by the ADA. The author makes his case by saying that the quality of life for the disabled has not improved since the ADA went into effect and it has restricted the freedoms of all citizens through strict regulations, lawsuits, and restricted economic growth. After his presentation he responded to questions from members of the audience.

Greg Perry is the author of more than 75 books on computer systems and computer programming.
