In 2002, while campaigning as a candidate in the Colombian presidential elections, Ingrid Betancourt was abducted by the FARC. She would spend the next six and a half years in the depths of the jungle as a prisoner. Ms. Betancourt responded to questions from members of the audience.

He also chronicles his time as a captive of the FARC, Colombia's largest leftist guerrilla organization. The guest interviewer was Josh Rushing, correspondent for Al Jazeera English and host of that network's "On War" series. Among other topics, they discussed Mr. Leech's early life, his experiences as a Marine in El Salvador  and his years in Colombia. 
 
 Garry Leech is the editor of [Colombia Journal] and a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia, Canada.</description>

      <description>Vicki Needham talked about the United States-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement that was signed on November 22, 2006 and the details of the pending trade deal and impact on the two countries. Colombia's Congress approved the CTPA in 2007, but the U.S. has yet to do so. Colombia is currently the 27th largest U.S. goods trading partner, with $27.7 billion in total two-way goods traded in 2010. She also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.

 Senator Betancourt, a member of the Green Oxygen Party, has been both a congresswoman and a senator in the government of Colombia. She was running for president at the time of this program. Three weeks after this program, she was kidnapped for 6 years by the FARC.</description>

 Ambassador Schwab and nine members of Congress traveled to Medellin and Cartagena, Colombia, on April 4-6, 2008, the weekend before the President sent the trade agreement to Capitol Hill on April 7th. When the program aired, the House had voted to remove the timetable for consideration of the trade deal.</description>

      <description>President Bush delivered a speech to members of his Cabinet and reporters and signed fast track legislation for Congress to implement the Colombia Free Trade Agreement. President Bush urged Congress to sign the Agreement so that most exports from the U.S. to Colombia will no longer be subject to tariffs and because Colombian President Uribe has addressed certain issues in the country. 
 
 This was the first time a president has used fast track authority to force a congressional vote over the objections of the party controlling Congress.</description>
