Book Discussion on [Shadow in the Sun: A Korean Year]

Mr. Shapiro discussed his recent book, [Shadow in the Sun: A Korean Year of Love and Sorrow]. He compared living in South Korea to being locked in a room with a manic depressive because of his conflicting passions of bitterness and love for the country. Mr. Shapiro says it is important for Americans to learn more about Korea because of its increasing economic prowess. In less than a generation, he wrote, South Korea has moved from a state of poverty to industrial might. Where its main export was once rice, it now exports computers, televisions, VCRs, ships, and automobiles.
