      <description>President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to former Army Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha. Sergeant Romesha was honored for his actions during an October 3, 2009, battle with the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan, during which eight American soldiers were killed and 24 others were wounded.
In remarks President Obama said U.S. troops should never again be asked to "defend the indefensible," a reference to Sergeant Romesha's outpost, which was positioned at the bottom of a valley, making it vulnerable to attack.</description>

Sergeant Giunta received the Medal of Honor for the war in Afghanistan, General Livingston for the Vietnam War.

      <description>President Obama awarded U.S. Army Specialist Leslie H. Sabo, Jr., with the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action May 10, 1970, while serving as a rifleman in Cambodia. Specialist Sabo received the award because of his "conspicuous gallantry" and "heroic actions in combat." President Obama spoke about Specialist Sabo's serivce and about why it was only being recognized 42 years later. Specialist Sabo's brother was present as his widow accepted the medal.</description>

      <description>As part of the National Archives honoring the 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor Lieutenant General Nicholas Kehoe (Ret.) moderated a discussion with Medal of Honor recipients Harvey C. "Barney" Barnum, Jr., and Robert Foley about their experiences. They responded to questions from members of the audience.
The program opened with a video clip from the DVD accompanying the book [of Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty] featuring reflections of medal recipients.
For 150 years, the Medal of Honor has been America's symbol that soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and coast guardsmen have the esteem of their fellow countrymen for deeds on the battlefield that are far above and beyond the call of duty. It has been awarded fewer than 3,500 times. December 2011 marked the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's creation of the Medal of Honor.</description>

      <description>A U.S. Army film was set in the Pentagon's "Hall of Heroes," which contains the names of the recipients of the Medal of Honor. The history of the Medal of Honor was and stories of some of the recipients were told using historical footage and re-enactments. Video was included of President Lyndon Johnson presenting the Medal of Honor to members of four services at the Pentagon on May 14, 1968, the day he dedicated the new Hall of Heroes.
"Hall of Heroes" was an episode of the television series "The Big Picture," produced for the United States Army, which aired on ABC television from 1951 through 1975. The series focused on historic battles, figures, and traditions in U.S. military history.</description>

      <title>Congressional Medal of Honor 150th Anniversary Ceremony</title>
      <description>A ceremony was held to mark the 150th anniversary of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and representatives of each service talked about the history of the medal and changes to its design in each branch. A set of the newly minted gold and silver commemorative coins were presented for the Hall of Heroes.
The Medal of Honor was established by an Act of Congress signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln in December 1861. This ceremony in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes was held on National Medal of Honor Day, March 25th.</description>

      <description>President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Army Staff Sergeant Robert Miller. He was awarded the medal posthumously for his actions in 2008 which saved the lives of his fellow soldiers and 15 Afghan troops. His parents accepted the medal on his behalf.
Sergeant Miller was on foot in northern Afghanistan to clear a valley of insurgents who had attacked Afghanistan's army and civilians. He was the weapons sergeant and led the Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group and 15 Afghanistan soldiers. One insurgent approached the group at first, but soon 150 swarmed Miller and his fellow soldiers. He told his team to fall back while he moved toward the enemy. He was shot in the upper torso but continued to fight and radio enemy positions, allowing the others to get to a safe location.</description>
