 In the afternoon of the third day of the final hearings, motions focused on recommendations for Air Force base realignments and closures. The Commission also considered amendments to approved recommendations.
 
 Installations considered for realignment included Richmond International Airport Air Guard Station (VA) and Des Moines International Airport Air Guard Station (IA). Amendments considered included such installations as Fort Monmouth (NJ), Naval Air Station Oceana (VA), and Naval Air Station Brunswick (ME).</description>

 Installations considered for closure included WK Kellogg Airport Air Guard Station (MI), Mansfield-Lahm Municipal Airport Air Guard Station (OH), Martin State Air Guard Station (MD), and Kulis Air Guard Station (AK).</description>

 Based considered for realignment included Grand Forks Air Force Base (ND), McConnell Air National Guard Base (KS), Elmendorf Air Force Base (AK), Pope Air Force Base (NC), Little Rock Air Force Base (AR), Yeager Air National Guard Base (WV), and New Orleans Air Reserve Station (LA).</description>

 Ellsworth Air Force Base (SD) was considered for closure and Commission members decided to keep the installation open. After the decision Representative Herseth, Senator Thune, Senator Johnson, and Governor Rounds spoke about the effects the decision would have on national security and the state of South Dakota. They also commended the Commission on their independent thought process in making the decision. 
 
 Pope Air Force Base (NC) was considered for realignment and/or closure and Cannon Air Force Base (NM) was also considered for closure before the Commission recessed.</description>

      <title>Military Base Closings Final Deliberations, Air Force</title>
      <description>The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission began final deliberations before submitting its report to the president on September 8, 2005. Commissioners heard reports for staff members and considered several motions and amendments to Defense Department recommendations.
 
 In the afternoon of the second day of the final hearings, motions focused on recommendations for Air Force base realignments and closures. Mr. Small presented a review and analysis of the Air Force's recommendations for closure and realignment. Bases considered for closure included Galena Airport Forward Operations Location (AK) and Onizuka Air Force Station (Sunnyvale, CA). Commission members supported the closure of both installations.
 
 Bases considered for realignment included Eielson Air Force Base (AK), Moody Air Force Base (GA), and Shaw Air Force Base (SC).</description>

Mr. Van Saun and his analysts completed analyses of the seven joint cross service groups of the Department of Defense:  education and training, headquarters and support, industrial, intelligence, medical, supply and storage, and technical.
 
 The Commission considered such issues as the consolidation of maritime research and development, relocation of nuclear testing and evaluation, and the creation of a Navy Integrated Weapons and Armaments RDAT&amp;E (Research, Development and Acquisition, Test and Evaluation) center. They also considered proposals involving the creation of an Integrated Weapons and Armament Specialty Site for Guns and Ammunition.
  
 Installations considered for realignment included Naval Base Ventura County (CA), Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (VA), Naval Station Newport (RI), Patrick Air Force Base (Cape Canaveral, FL), Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (IN), Naval Surface Warfare Center Louisville (KY), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (OH), Robbins Air Force Base (GA), Tinker Air Force Base (OK), and Hill Air Force Base (UT).</description>
