      <description>The topic of this meeting of the class on the Clinton presidency was the politics of health care reform. Dr. Elders served as Surgeon General in 1993 and 1994. She argued the case for universal health coverage and was a spokesperson for President Clinton's health care reform effort. Mr. Jennings served under Former President Clinton as senior health policy advisor and deputy assistant for domestic policy. While serving in the administration, his primary role was to develop and incorporate the president's health care initiatives.</description>

      <description>In an evening news conference in the White House East Room, President Clinton reviewed a wide range of issues including the aircraft accident at Hope Air Force Base; the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio in Mexico, presidential candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party; the U.S. economic recovery; the Crime Bill; reform of the health care, welfare, and unemployment systems; and the Whitewater investigation. On Whitewater, the President indicated he has cooperated fully with the independent special counsel. "We have supplied over 14,000 documents, my tax returns dating back to 1978, and made available every administration witness he has sought," the President said. The President added that tomorrow he will make available his tax returns dating back to 1977, when he first held public office. Media questions centered on the Whitewater investigation. The press conference was held at 7:30 PM EST.</description>
