[Walter L. Nixon v. United States] Oral Arguments

Oral arguments in the [Nixon v. United States] case were played on audio, with sketches of the participants shown on the video. Walter Nixon, a federal judge, challenged the procedures the Senate used to impeach him for perjury before a grand jury. In this case, the Senate used a committee to hear the case and then the Senate voted to impeach Nixon and Nixon argued that he had not had a trial before the full Senate as mandated by the Constitution. Kenneth Starr, as Solicitor General, argued that the federal court should not have heard the case. The Court upheld this procedure by a unanimous vote.
