He is the current chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and formerly served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, during the Reagan administration. During the Nixon administration, Richard Lugar, then mayor of Indianapolis, was known as Richard Nixon's favorite mayor.</description>
