Brown Presidential Campaign Announcement

Speaking from the steps of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, former California Governor Edmund "Jerry" Brown, Jr. announced his entrance into the race for the 1992 Democratic presidential nomination. In his remarks, Governor Brown criticized the modern electoral process for alienating the American people. He pledged to operate a campaign based upon integrity and issues rather than mud-slinging and money. Governor Brown also emphasized the necessity of restoring the American economy to its former health so the next generation would not be the first to live at a lower standard of living than its parents. He pledged he would not accept campaign contributions in amounts greater than $100 per donor, and would not accept donations from political action committees. He spoke from an austere podium before Independence Hall to a crowd of approximately 200 people.
