      <description>A funeral service for former Senator George McGovern (D-SD) was held in the Mary W. Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died on October 17, 2012, at the age of 90. The service included music, slides shows, and many tributes to the former senator who was a decorated World War II bomber pilot, the 1972 Democratic Party nominee for president, and creator of the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs. The creator of the modern food-stamp program, he was the United Nations ambassador for world hunger and the 2008 recipient of the World Food Prize.</description>
