      <title>Book Discussion on [1960, LBJ vs. JFK vs. Nixon]</title>
      <description>David Pietrusza talked about [1960: LBJ vs. JFK vs. Nixon: The Epic Campaign That Forged Three Presidencies] (Union Square Press; September 2, 2008). In his book he recounts the presidential campaign and election of 1960 from the contest for the Democratic nomination between John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson to the presidential election pitting Kennedy against Richard Nixon. Mr. Pietrusza profiles each politician and examines how the onset of television and the rising influence of presidential primaries impacted the election. Following his remarks he responded to questions from members of the audience.
David Pietrusza is the author of several books, including [1920: The Year of the Six Presidents] and [Rothstein: The Life, Times and Murder of the Criminal Genius Who Fixed the 1919 World Series].</description>

      <title>Ideological Culture Wars in America</title>
      <description>James Davison Hunter and Morris Fiorina talked about "culture wars" and whether America is more or less culturally divided than previously. Mr. Hunter believes our culture is embroiled in a major clash of ideas, while Mr. Fiorina contends that America today is no more divided now than in the past and tends to agree on most of the major issues. They responded to questions from members of the audience.
 
 James Davison Hunter is the director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the the University of Virginia. His books include [Is There a Culture War?: A Dialogue on Values And American Public Life], published by Brookings Institution Press. Morris Fiorina is a professor of political science at Stanford. His books include [Culture War? The Myth of a Polarized America], published by Longman.
 
 "The Great Divide: Is America in the Midst of a Culture War?" is the second lecture in the Janus Forum Lecture Series, sponsored by the Political Theory Project. It was held in List Art Center of Brown University.</description>

 Interviews of C-SPAN staff members were conducted on the Campaign 2008 C-SPAN buses, which were located in Iowa and New Hampshire. The program focused on New Hampshire. The history and unique capabilities of the buses were discussed.
 
 Concord Monitor executive editor Felice Berman was interviewed about New Hampshire politics and the January 8 primary election. The [Monitor] had not issued an endorsement at the time of the program. Berman answered questions from callers.</description>

In 1876, New York Democrat Samuel Tilden almost certainly won the popular vote over Ohio Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. But contested returns in Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina, as well as a legal issue in Oregon, eventually led to a 15-member congressional commission awarding Hayes all 20 contested electoral votes, giving him a one-vote victory in the Electoral College.</description>
