The home retains many original features from Pyle's time and memorabilia about his life. The home itself was left to the city after with specific intent for it to be used as the city's library. Ms. O'Connell also talked about Ernie Pyle's work and the impact of his writings, including some of his original works from the Special Collections Library.

      <description>Historian George Nash discussed Herbert Hoover's manuscript, [Freedom Betrayed: Herbert Hoover's Secret History of the Second World War and Its Aftermath], which was edited by both Mr. Nash and the Hoover Institution Press. The book is the culmination of a literary project launched by Hoover during WWII that evolved into a critique of U.S. foreign policy during the war and the early years of the Cold War. Hoover argues that FDR's pre-war and wartime diplomacy had made the world safe for Stalinist Russia and triggered the Cold War.</description>

On December 17th, 1944, an American convoy traveling through Belgium was spotted and captured by German troops. The POWs were brought to a field where they were shot and about half were killed. Many details of the massacre remain unknown. Mr. Parker spent 15 years to uncover the truth behind the Malmedy massacre.</description>

Sgt. Ed Fox was a machine gunner on Midway with the 6th Defense Battalion, Fleet Marine Force. Captain John Crawford served as an ensign aboard the USS Yorktown. CPO Chief Hank Kudzik served aboard the USS Nautilus, a submarine that played a pivotal role in the Battle of Midway.</description>

The author followed five journalists as they reported from the front lines of battle, Walter Cronkite (United Press), Andy Rooney (Stars and Stripes), Homer Bigart (New York Herald Tribune), A.J. Liebling (The New Yorker), and Hal Boyle (Associated Press). Mr. Gay relays that of the five reporters, only Hal Boyle had completed his undergraduate degree at the time, and recalls the numerous air bombings and ground operations that the respective journalists covered. Mr. Gay showed a picture and video clips featuring Walter Cronkite, including historical recreations of newscasts and clips featuring former President Eisenhower in the "CBS Reports" documentary [D-Day Plus 20 Years: Eisenhower Returns to Normandy]. Mr. Gay was joined by panelists at this Book Rap at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. They also responded to questions from members of the audience.</description>

Next on American History TV, to mark the 70th anniversary of the battle, a commemoration ceremony held this past Monday at the United States Navy Memorial here in Washington.
