      <description>Mr. Ky talked about his memoir, [Buddha's Child: My Fight to Save Vietnam], published by St. Martin's Press. He also spoke about meeting President Nixon, his experiences as a leader in Vietnam, and his experiences when he came to America as a refugee. 
As a young pilot, Mr. Ky led South Vietnam's first air strike against the North and became an Air Force commander who was picked to lead his country after numerous coups had left his country's leadership in jeopardy. Mr. Ky served as prime minister of South Vietnam until 1967 and was involved in the Vietnam war after his tenure as prime minister had ended. He left Vietnam in 1975 during the fall of Saigon.</description>

      <title>Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ceremony</title>
      <description>The annual Memorial Day observance held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. included a proclamation to begin the national commemoration of the Vietnam War's 50th anniversary. President Obama and other dignitaries made remarks. The ceremony, co-hosted by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the National Park Service, included wreath-layings by patriotic organizations, presentation and retirement of the colors, and music by the U.S. Marine Band and Army Chorus. The invocation included a message from the Reverend Billy Graham. The presidential proclamation was read by Medal of Honor recipient Brian Thacker. Tom Selleck was the master of ceremony.
This ceremony marked the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War and the start of 13 years of commemoration of those who served in that war.</description>

      <title>Harold Moore Oral History Interview, Part 2</title>
      <description>Lieutenant General Harold Moore (Ret.) talked about the November 1965 battle of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. It was the first full-scale battle between U.S. troops and the People's Army of Vietnam, and soon after these battles the Vietnamese communist forces began engaging in guerrilla warfare. Then Lieutenant Colonel Moore was the commanding officer on the ground with the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment. He reflected on the nature of war and leadership, and shared recollections of the battle that he knew would reverberate in Washington, D.C., and Hanoi. Topics included freedom of the press during wartime.
He was interviewed by Richard Verrone on November 10, 2005, while in Washington, D.C., at a 40th anniversary reunion for veterans of the battle of the Ia Drang Valley.

      <title>Harold Moore Oral History Interview, Part 1</title>
      <description>Lieutenant General Harold Moore (Ret.) talked about the November 1965 battle of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. It was the first full-scale battle between U.S. troops and the People's Army of Vietnam, and soon after these battles the Vietnamese communist forces began engaging in guerrilla warfare. Then Lieutenant Colonel Moore was the commanding officer on the ground with the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment. He reflected on the nature of war and leadership, and shared recollections of the battle that he knew would reverberate in Washington, D.C., and Hanoi.
He was interviewed by Richard Verrone on November 10, 2005, while in Washington, D.C., at a 40th anniversary reunion for veterans of the battle of the Ia Drang Valley.
This is the first of two parts of the interview.</description>

In this interview spoke of the profound impact of being a front line soldier on his life and shared his own anguish in dealing with post traumatic stress disorder. He feels the military did a poor job of reintegrating Vietnam veterans to life back in the U.S. 
Karl Marlantes graduated from Yale University and was a 1967 Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. From his one year of combat experience in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Bronze Star, two Navy Commendation medals for valor, and two Purple Hearts. He also wrote [Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War], published in 2010.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Westmoreland: The General Who Lost Vietnam]</title>
      <description>Military historian Lewis Sorley recouneds the career of General William Westmorland, who led American forces in the Vietnam War from 1964-1968. Mr. Sorley recounted General Westmorland's service prior to Vietnam, from his participation in World War II and the Korean War to his appointment as superintendent at West Point. The author contended that General Westmoreland's skillful self-promotion allowed him to assume leadership positions in the military that he was not qualified to maintain. Mr. Sorley focused on General Westmoreland's tactics during the Vietnam War and argued that the war may have been won if not for Westmoreland's poor decisions. Lewis Sorley responded to questions from members of the audience at the noon National Archives Experience in Washington, D.C.</description>

      <title>The Pentagon Papers Case - 35 Years Later</title>
      <description>In a forum on communications law, the participants discussed the question, "The Pentagon Papers Case 35 Years Later: How Would the Court Decide Today?"  They gave personal recollections of decisions involving the case, including reasons for delaying the publishing. The panelists compared the Vietnam War era situation to the National Security Agency (NSA) domestic surveillance program. Mr. Ellsberg also said that whistleblowers should not be afraid to reveal government secrets when that effort could save people's lives, regardless of the penalties. Mr. Freeman moderated the discussion.
Mr. Ellsberg, a Defense Department analyst, leaked the Pentagon papers to the [New York Times] in 1971. Former [New York Times] Executive Editor Max Frankel was the Washington bureau chief at that time. David Rudenstine is the author of [The Day the Presses Stopped:  A History of the Pentagon Papers Case], published by the University of California Press.</description>
