He described how he blended the hundreds of pages Manchester completed before his death in 2004 with his own research to produce the biography of the final twenty-five years of Churchill's life. He described how he went about his research, including interviewing many of Churchill's family members and acquaintances. In the book, Reid explains the relationship between Churchill and world leaders such as Franklin Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin, sharing stories of Churchill's private life both in and out of government.
