      <title>Federal Response to Rise in Autism Rates</title>
      <description>Domestic and advocacy group officials testified about autism. Among the topics they discussed were efforts to increase awareness and understanding of the disease, the cost of the disease, limited public health resources, and public health policy. Representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) denied a link between rising autism rates and vaccinations. Representative Burton showed a video about research on the effect of mercury on the brain.</description>

He was a contributing editor for the [Atlantic Monthly] magazine and a columnist for [Vanity Fair] magazine, where he has been writing articles  about his diagnosis in the summer 2010 of stage four esophageal cancer.</description>

      <title>Response to H1N1 Flu Virus</title>
      <description>Cabinet Secretaries Sebelius, Napolitano, and Duncan testified on efforts to monitor national response to the H1N1 flu virus. Since September 2009, more than 300 U.S. citizens have died from the virus, most under the age of 65. Among the topics addressed were shortages of the flu vaccine due to production delays, hospital and public health department capacities, intravenous and anti-viral medications, and the ability of public health agencies to stay ahead of the spread of the virus.</description>
