      <title>Book Discussion on [The Flight of Apollo 11]</title>
      <description>On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and landed on the Moon July 20th. On July 21st Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the Moon. The film [The Flight of Apollo 11: Eagle Has Landed] was produced by NASA. It uses television, motion pictures, and still photographs to depict the principal events of the mission, from the launch through the recovery of astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins on July 24th, including being greeted by President Nixon. An audio excerpt from President Nixon's remarks of August 4, 1969, was included as well as Neil Armstrong's transmissions from the Moon.</description>

      <description>Specimens were shown as the history of the United States Exploring Expedition was explained. The 19th century government expedition commanded by Lieutenant Charles Wilkes would circumnavigate the globe, chart unknown Pacific islands, and discover Antarctica. The 40 tons of animal, plant, and ethnographic specimens collected by the expedition's six naval vessels became the foundation for the Smithsonian Institution collections, and are still used for scientific research. Several locations of the National Museum of Natural History were toured, including the Joseph F. Cullman 3rd Library of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and the Museum Support Center in Suitland, Maryland. Topics included the evolution of the Smithsonian and preservation of the specimens.
This was the first of two parts.</description>

Working with the Time Warner local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.</description>

C-SPAN's Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their "2012 LCV Cities Tour" in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 9-12 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.</description>

The tour included a stop at Huntsville, Alabama; Cape Canaveral, Florida; Houston, Texas, where he gave a speech on September 12, 1962, at Rice University and toured the Manned Spacecraft Center; and the McDonald plant in St. Louis to see the Mercury and Gemini space capsules.
