Jill Biden introduced President Obama at the first-ever White House summit on community colleges. She is Vice President Biden's wife and an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College. Following the president's remarks, Melinda Gates talked about the new $35 million Gates Foundation program, called "Completion by Design," to help boost community college graduation rates.</description>

The introductions included a video by Jim Lehr in the form of a "PBS NewsHour" report on the release of the book that included numerous clips. The book party was held April 4, 2011, at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.</description>

      <title>Engineering in K-12 Education, Part 1</title>
      <description>The National Academy of Engineering and National Research Council held a symposium to coincide with the release their report "Engineering in K-12 Education: Understanding the Status and Improving the Prospects." Participants spoke about the recommendations and implementation of programs to include more engineering topics in primary math and science classes. 
The report assessed the value of developing and implementing engineering curricula for kindergarten through grade 12. It also describes what engineering concepts children are able to understand and at what age, and provides an analysis of more than a dozen engineering curriculum projects.</description>

C-SPAN invited high school and middle school students from across the country to produce a video documentary on current campaign issues. C-SPAN selected 45 winning videos from 700 entries. Students competed for prizes up to $5,000. This competition was funded by the C-SPAN Education Foundation.
 
 The Grand Prize Winner was Nicco Quinones. The 1st Place Winner was Caylan Schneider. The 2nd Place Winner was Leila Giles. The 3rd Place Winners were Lauren Simenauer, Karen Turner and Emily Wilson.
 
 Several winners and advisors participated via telephone.</description>
