      <title>Tour of James Thurber House</title>
      <description>Paul Hammock told stories as he gave a tour of the home of American author and cartoonist James Thurber. The home has been restored for the period when the Thurber family lived there from 1913 to 1917, while the author was in college. Mr. Thurber was one of the most popular and influential humorists of his time. He was best known for his cartoons and short stories, published mainly in [The New Yorker] magazine.

      <title>African-American Communities in 1920s Oklahoma</title>
      <description>Historian Currie Ballard talked about his discovery of rare film taken of Oklahoma's black communities in the 1920s by Solomon Sir Jones. Oklahoma was unique in that former black Indian slaves were able to accumulate property during the land runs of the 1890s, leading to the founding of over 50 predominantly African-American communities in the state. Mr. Ballard also talked about the history of the depiction of blacks in film. Various clips from the 1920s films were shown as well as a clip of "I Spy." Mr. Ballard was interviewed at the Melvin B. Tolson Black Heritage Center of Langston University. "

      <description>Alva Vanderbilt was the force behind the French inspired palace called "The Marble House." The Gilded Age relic is preserved in the Rhode Island seaside town of Newport -- the storied 19th century resort of industrialists, financiers, statesmen and artists. The Vanderbilt family fortune came from steamships and the New York Central Railroad. American History TV toured the mansion that the Vanderbilts called their summer cottage.</description>

      <title>The Old Charlotte Mint</title>
      <description>The Charlotte Mint was one of the first branches of the Federal Mint outside of Philadelphia. It was established in the 1830s, after extensive gold mining began in North Carolina, and operated until the Civil War. In 1936 it became the first art museum in the state. Cheryl Palmer talked about the history of gold production in North Carolina and the mint building.

      <description>Tom Liljenquist and his sons, Jason, Brandon, and Christian began collecting Civil War ambrotype and tintype photographs of ordinary soldiers in the mid-1990s. In 2010, the family donated more than 700 photographs of Union and Confederate soldiers to the Library of Congress. "The Last Full Measure: Civil War Photographs from the Liljenquist Family Collection" is a Library of Congress exhibit of 379 of the images.
Tom Liljenquist and two of his sons showed some of their favorites at the exhibit. They were joined by library representatives in talking about the photographic processes, the images, and the exhibit.</description>

C-SPAN's Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their "2011 LCV Cities Tour" in Savannah, Georgia, on June 1-8 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.</description>
